Ruffles upon ruffles for David & Stephanie!

Congratulations to the lovely David and Stephanie, who married in February at the beautiful Kimpton Fitzroy London!

It was such a privilege to have been part of their day, their wedding cake has to be one of my absolute favourites to date! It was such a joy to work closely with David and Stephanie to design and create a wedding cake that not only made an impact, but also included personal touches that reflected them perfectly.

THE CEREMONY IN THE BALLROOM

David, Stephanie and Maple the pup checked in to the bridal suite the day before the wedding to settle in and to start off the celebrations just the three of them before the main event!

The couple spent their wedding morning getting ready at the Kimpton with their closest friends and family, before the celebrations began with their ceremony in the ballroom. The Kimpton Fitzroy, located on Russell Square in the heart of london’s Bloomsbury neighbourhood is one of the most sort-after venues in London.

Boasting one of the most spectacular grade II listed Victorian Ballrooms, it is a stunning setting to host your wedding ceremony! Classical regency architecture, combined with an art deco edge creates the perfect place to celebrate in style and splendour.

THE FLOWERS

The couple chose to bring the outside in with romantically trailing blooms of tulips, roses, and anemones adorning the ballroom in rich, muted tones of blush, maroon and ivory. A showstopping floral arch stood as the centrepiece of the ceremony, overflowing with seasonal florals and lush greenery, the perfect colour combination for a winter wedding.

THE WEDDING CAKE

My Plisse Ruffles cake design is one of my absolute favourite creations to date! Each one unique in its own way, it is a style that can more than hold its own, even in the most spectacular of ballrooms.

Stephanie and David’s design was a showstopping four tiered, Plisse fondant ruffles cake, complete with differing textures of smooth and embossed pleated ruffles, in a mix of cream and ivory tones. Creating the ruffles is a labour of love, each one cut and ruched by hand, with over 150 individual pieces required in order to achieve a impactful and dramatic effect. The final finished look is so worth it!

Stephanie and David had an eye for the details, incorporating the pleated Plisse texture within the cake design as a subtle nod to Stephanie’s exquisite handmade bridal gown by Alena Leena, featuring a gorgeous A-line pleated princess skirt, with flowing ruffles of pleated ivory plisse tulle!

The cake was not only a showstopper in design, but also held a deeply personal touch, featuring a bespoke flavour pairing created especially for David and Stephanie. Inspired by Stephanie’s family’s homegrown rhubarb, we developed a unique flavour pairing of English rhubarb, vanilla, and champagne sponge.

Made entirely dairy and nut-free, all four tiers were encased in chocolate ganache before being finished with their elegant ruffle layers, creating a wedding cake that was seasonal, meaningful, and utterly timeless.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS…

The couple also chose to design bespoke biscuit wedding favours, to gift each guest. Their elegant design featured vanilla spiced sugar biscuits, elegantly decorated with their bespoke wedding crest, embossed in antique gold fondant to match their wedding stationery.

David and Stephanie’s celebrations continued into the evening, marked by the arrival of a live band and the opening of the dance floor. Guests were invited to enjoy the festivities under the glitz of several GIANT disco balls in the sparkling ballroom, with everyone taking to the dance floor to party!
